CHANL Kickstarter Program
CHANL Kickstarter Program
The Chapel Hill Analytical and Nanofabrication Laboratory (CHANL) has established a Kickstarter program for UNC-Chapel Hill researchers interested in CHANL resources. This program is designed to engage new users* who may be using CHANL resources for the first time and to enable existing users to explore new, unfunded projects. This program will consider applications from:
-
- new users especially from disciplines that are under‐represented in CHANL, including Health Sciences (Medicine, Pharmacy, Public Health, Dentistry, etc), Anthropology, Archaeology, Art, Geology, Marine Science, etc.
- existing CHANL users who wish to engage in research activities that are not currently funded from an external source but which have strong potential for external funding
Award recipients are granted $750 to use towards CHANL instrument training and instrument usage.
Funds expire one year after the award is granted.
Requirements and Restrictions
- Applicant must be a current UNC‐Chapel Hill undergraduate/graduate student, post‐doc, or other research staff member or affiliate
- Only one application per principal investigator (typically a faculty member) will be active at a time
- Funds cannot be used to offset the expenses of an existing funded project
- Funds must be used within CHANL for instrument time and/or labor and cannot be used for the purchase of materials and supplies
- *New users are defined as researchers working for a principal investigator who has not actively used CHANL for their research projects in the past two years
Applications can be completed and submitted by completing an online Qualtrics survey. Interested applicants must receive approval from their principal investigator prior to submission.
SELECTION
Proposals will be evaluated based upon quality of the proposal, a proven need for assistance, and the potential for this project to lead to further utilization of CHANL resources.
TIMELINE
Proposals received by March 31 will receive the priority for funding; however, proposals will also be accepted on a rolling basis if funds remain.
